After extended testing, Google will now be removing ads that appear on the right side of search results; with only two exceptions.
Google as announced that it will be removing those right side ads from its desktop search we are so accustomed to seeing. In doing so, Google also stated that it could possibly show and extra ad (four not three) located above the search results – for highly commercial queries.
These changes will be seen across all of Google’s searches, in every language. There will be however two exceptions to this new rule:
As mentioned, the fourth ad, which will be located above search results, will be reserved for only commercial searches like “house insurance” or “Chicago motels”.
Google’s official statement regarding these changes stated:
“We’ll continue to make tweaks, but this is designed for highly commercial queries where the layout is able to provide more relevant results for people searching and better performance for advertisers.”
The changes will also further the similarities between that of desktop and mobile searches – mobile generally shows two to three ads above search results.
