Reddit Opens Its AI-Powered Max Campaigns to All Advertisers

By

Reddit is introducing a new type of advertisement system which gives users full freedom of advertising – Max Campaign. The platform is giving businesses an automated campaign system with complete control over it. It is also bringing three fresh features to the Max campaigns to add flexibility of usage for advertising purposes alongside the launch of these campaigns.

After its exclusive availability with small set of advertisers in the early 2026 January, Reddit has continued to use that time for collecting usage feedback and improving research says before wider public release. As them, they got very encouraging initial results so the decision was made to offer it to everyone.

What Max Campaigns Actually Do

Reddit’s Max ads feature a campaign tool that is supposed to do practically everything automatically when it comes to the part of creating the advertisements. Instead of manually determining the targeting parameters, selecting creative elements, identifying the placements, and then allocating the budget manually – the advertisers delegate these decisions to Reddit’s AI system which uses insights on the audience based on the users’ preferences and their interaction with the platform content. The company claims that such automation is made possible with what is internally referred to as Community Intelligence, and then using a predictive model to assess the value of each individual advertisement impressions.

Reddit explains that, contrary to a static schedule of creative rotations, this system is constantly assessing which title image video, and call-to-action are most likely to succeed for a particular ad, and making the necessary changes while they’re at it.

Reddit reports that, because of using Max campaigns, advertiser budgets per acquisition were a whole -17% per cent less on average, and also got about +27% more conversions than those who only stuck with the regular advertising setups. One shoe brand mentioned by Reddit had a Max campaign which resulted in 37% fewer costs for each click and 27% higher number of clicks over a 21-day span with no human being stepping in even once to adjust the campaign settings at any time.

Three New Features Rolling Out Alongside the Expansion

On top of making Max campaigns available to all advertisers, Reddit is rolling out three new features designed to make the platform more customizable for bigger, more sophisticated ad buys.

  • First is API support.

Reddit’s ad API will be updated to support Max campaigns, enabling advertisers to create and run Max campaigns through third-party tools instead of only needing to use Reddit’s ad UI. This is most important for larger advertisers and agencies that already operate multi-platform campaigns through a central management platform; they would prefer not to have to deal with Reddit separately.

  • The second is a new integration with an auto-optimization platform called Smartly.

This is the first third-party tool that will enabled to do Max campaigns directly, and the integration allows the users of Smartly to optimize their Max campaigns on Reddit directly from the Smartly interface. Reddit and Smartly have partnered on a wider Smartly integration that became generally available in mid-2025 so this is building on previous partnership and not new partnership from beginning.

  • Third, there are asset groups.

Asset groups are new to maxthey allow an ad-buying company to group many different sets of creative under a single max campaign. In Reddit’s own words, “each asset group can correspond to a different product offering or use case (e. g. running shoes, training gear, workout accessories), and each group can have a unique combination of headlines, media, and destination URL. ”

Advertisers can then report on each asset group’s performance separately, providing greater granularity than just one all-encompassing campaign report. Anyone who’s launched Performance Max campaigns in Google Ads will recognize this idea, which employs a similar asset group set-up to enable one automated campaign to deliver customized creative across different product categories or customer segments.

Why Reddit’s Audience Data Is the Real Selling Point

The main idea of Max campaigns isn’t really the automation because automated bidding and creative optimization have already been parts of other ad platforms for years. The unique pitch is in the type of automation and the underlying data that it uses.

Reddit, unlike other major social platforms, is a place on the internet where people are genuinely discussing things, getting into the details of a product, and making purchase decisions – so, a platform where they can find a lot of product-related content and conversations. The company has presented statistics stating that a large proportion of the online conversations about buying are happening on Reddit and that it also claims its platform delivers a much higher incremental return on ad spend than the digital advertising average.

For advertisers, this is significant as it is the reason why they decide to trust an algorithm to run their campaigns. The case Reddit makes is that through its Community Intelligence data, they have access to various user signals that are not generally present on other platforms and that include, more or less, the kinds of uninvited, intentful discussions which occur within niche communities, and that their AI system will be able to create targeting and creative decisions much better than a human marketer using just generalized interest categories.

What This Means for Advertisers Considering Reddit

For many brands who have been skeptical about committing budgets to Reddit advertising due to its community-based nature and the platform’s niche subreddit culture which makes it comparatively more difficult for advertisers to create effective campaigns here than on familiar environments like Meta Google etc. the introduction of Max campaigns will make a big difference in bringing about a change as they will reduce the difficulty factor A lot. Actually, the advertiser does not need to be an expert of the platform and will be able to create a very well targeted advert because the system will be taking care of audience targeting as well as creative selection automatically on their behalf.

In the wake of Truth is all advertisers can now use automation, it also becomes clear that having the advantage of being an early adopter is something that will be reduced gradually. When Max campaigns were limited to a select group during the January 2026 beta, the ones who were allowed actually had the benefit of data with real-life experiences which now, can be easily accessed by any other competitor who decides to trial the tool. Advertisers getting into this now are advised to do it by sticking to the same core elements which have been making the performance of any automated ad system better: having good quality creative materials in all formats, setting up a clear tracking of conversions, and providing the campaign with a sufficient amount of money so that the algorithm on Reddit has enough data to make conclusions about performance from.

One of the new features, the asset groups in particular, is one that should be given top priority for those who advertise their several lines of products or services since it solves for a very real and widely reported problem of automated campaign tools, namely that a single combined performance indicator does not give you the information on exactly which offer or message has made the campaign to be successful.
