SERP Simulator: Title Tag and Meta Description Checker

See how your page will look in Google search results on desktop and mobile. The SERP simulator measures your title tag and meta description in pixels, the way Google does, and warns you before they get cut off.

How to use the SERP simulator

    1. Paste your title tag, the page URL and your meta description.
    2. Switch between desktop and mobile to see both previews.
    3. Watch the bars. Green means the text fits, amber means it is close to the limit, red means Google will probably cut it off.
    4. Add your target keyword to see it in bold, the way Google highlights words that match the search.

How long should a title tag be?

Google does not use a character limit. It cuts titles by pixel width: around 600 pixels on desktop, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Wide letters such as W and M use more space than narrow ones such as i and l, so two titles with the same character count can display differently.

    • Put the main keyword near the start.
    • Keep the most important words inside the first 50 characters.
    • Add your brand at the end if there is room.
    • Write a unique title for every page.

How long should a meta description be?

Google typically shows up to about 920 pixels on desktop (roughly 150 to 160 characters) and about 680 pixels on mobile (roughly 120 characters). Aim for 120 to 155 characters so the key message survives on both.

Meta descriptions do not directly affect rankings, but a clear, specific description that matches the search can raise click-through rate. Google rewrites descriptions it finds less relevant, so focus on accurately summarizing the page.

Why does Google change my title or description?

Google may rewrite a title when it is too long, stuffed with keywords, the same across many pages, or does not match the page content. It often replaces meta descriptions with text from the page that better matches the query. You reduce rewrites by keeping titles concise and descriptive and making sure the H1 and title agree.

Title tag and meta description checklist

    • Description between 120 and 155 characters with a clear benefit or next step.
    • No duplicate titles or descriptions across the site.
    • Title matches the page’s H1 and search intent.
    • Numbers, dates or specifics where they help (for example “2026” or “free”).

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a SERP simulator?

A SERP simulator shows how a page’s title tag, URL and meta description are likely to appear in Google search results, so you can fix truncation before publishing.

How many characters should a title tag be?

Aim for 50 to 60 characters. Google measures titles in pixels and cuts them at about 600 pixels on desktop.

How many characters should a meta description be?

Keep it between 120 and 155 characters. Google shows roughly 920 pixels on desktop and 680 pixels on mobile.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly, but a relevant description can increase click-through rate from search results, which brings more visitors from the same ranking.

Is this preview exactly what Google will show?

It is a close approximation using Google’s fonts and pixel limits. Google can still rewrite titles and descriptions or add extra features such as dates, ratings or sitelinks.
